At the renewed Trendforum, centrally located in Hall B of Modefabriek, visitors will be introduced to the biggest fashion trends, colours and fabrics for autumn/winter 2024-25. Creative director Caroline Krouwels gives a sneak preview of one of the trends that will be highlighted there: Oddities.
"At a time when the world is on fire and we are clearly in a period of transition, we need a kind of playfulness, optimism and colour in fashion. A logical reaction, because in this way we distort the harsh and raw reality into something beautiful. The imagination is alive and well, giving us fashion with humour, colour and new forms.
First of all, this is reflected in the colours: they are pronounced and sometimes even bright. In the colour palette we find violet, poppy red, mint, fresh blues and citrus yellows alongside olive greens and soft neutrals. These colours are beautiful in harmony and surprising in combination.
The silhouette is full of volume and oversized. You will also recognise aspects from sports, such as puffer jackets, preferably also in a distinct colour. They give volume and are ultra-light. You also see unexpected shapes applied in an unorthodox way, sometimes in combination with playful and daring use of materials. There is experimentation with faux fur, felt, sponge-like fabrics or textured materials. Good examples are the fake fur trousers, or the fake fur heavy slippers already introduced into the fashion scene by Dries van Noten and Loewe. Or rich felted woolens, both in knitwear and woven variations. Beautiful because of their warm look and soft warm appearance.
We apply volumes in warm materials for clothing and accessories like we did not see before. Unexpected and with a wink. Think puffy sleeves and the voluminous skirt that is cautiously making its reappearance. In knitwear, we further see rich jacquards, brushed mohairs, felt-like woolens and bouclé yarns that enhance volume.
In short: Oddities is a trend where reality is equally distant and where we surprise the world with a smile and optimism. A fashion statement where colour, volume and silhouette engage in a joyful dialogue."
