In Meet the Buyers at Modefabriek we introduce you weekly to buyers of various multi-brand stores, sustainable stores and great boutiques. This week Magali Heuberger from Het Faire Oosten.
In the summer of 2014, Magali - founder of Het Faire Oosten – started a mission. "I believe that fast fashion and cheap mass production are no longer possible. Not for the planet, not for ourselves. It's time to change the way we consume as well. We shouldn't underestimate the tremendous power we have to positively shape our environment, by supporting small changes in our daily routines and by the people, initiatives and brands we choose." With that in mind, Het Faire Oosten – 'House of Impact' – was born and has since grown into a department store with the largest range of fair fashion in Amsterdam and surroundings. With accessories, interior design, beauty products, an extensive body & mind collection on the first floor, baby gifts, books and stationery, and much more.
Why is it relevant for you as a buyer to visit a trade fair like Modefabriek?
As a store, we would like to keep innovating. By visiting Modefabriek we immediately get a good overview of the latest trend and new innovations. This is also a great opportunity to broaden our network and see how you can, as sustainable entrepreneuers, do something for each other.
What are you most looking forward to in the coming buying season?
I look forward to discovering new brands that are outspoken about sustainability and acting accordingly in every step of their process. Fortunately, there are more and more entrepreneurs who understand the importance of sustainability and it is also nice to see this growth reflected at a fair like Modefabriek. It would be nice if there is a separate section for all honest fashion brands during the fair, so that you can immediately be sure that you are talking to brands that share the same mission.
(Modefabriek’s Note: we do have this separate section, The Sustainable Stop! Read more about it here)
